TITAN, 2012 → 2026

TITAN was a Helwan University graduation project: a driverless guidance system for Cairo Metro trains. Trains report GPS position, speed and the ID of the track segment under them. A central control server sends back driving instructions and throws the switches. Operators watch everything from monitoring and controlling stations.

Only the schematic viewer and editor were ever finished, so the system was never seen running. This page builds the rest in the browser.

Taken from the 2012 project

The Helwan line schematic: 122 segments, 4 conjunction segments and 8 stations, from demo_schematic.xml with its original UUIDs.
The object model: TrackPoint, Segment, ConjunctionSegment and Station, and how the XML parser reads them.
The wire formats from the thesis: the 33-byte train status report, 5- and 9-byte server instructions and 17-byte switching hub messages.
The safety rule from the emergency slides: every train stays five track segments away from any other train.
Both emergency procedures: a passenger presses the button, or a train or the server stops hearing the other side.

Added for this rebuild

The routing and speed algorithm. The chapter "Figuring Out the Routes that Each Individual Train Should Take" was left empty in the thesis. Here the server reserves track ahead of each train, sets switches through the yard as one locked route, and sends speed steps that follow a braking curve.
The trains, door sensors and passengers are simulated. The handshake is shown, but RSA and Blowfish are not actually run.
The schematic ends just north of Kozzika. Trains that leave the map there come back on the other track a couple of minutes later.
